The Chairman of Civil aviation Committee, Mr. T. T. Lastayev has inspected works on the reconstruction of the Paved Runway-1
On August 6,2017 the Chairman of Civil aviation Committee, Mr. T. T. Lastayev has inspected works on the reconstruction of the Paved Runway-1 the General contractor of which is Kazakhstan company K-Dorstroy. According to the reconstruction, upper asphalt layer thickness of 14 cm will be fully updated. Two high-speed taxiways have been already built, the new lighting facilities of the category 3B of ICAO and also 4 transformer substations supplying the lighting system are installed, as well as the power lines of 6 kilowatt are replaced with 10 kilowatt. With the commissioning of high-speed taxiways, aerodrome capacity will increase from 11 to 20 aircraft per hour.
At the moment, milling operations are completed. 2 200 m of the leveling asphalt layer with thickness 5 cm and 1100 m of base layer thickness of 9 cm are laid. Work is underway on the laying of cable ducts and assembly of transformer substations. Reconstruction of the Paved Runway-1 is on schedule and will be completed by the end of October 2017. The Chairman of Civil Aviation Committee (CAC) was satisfied with the current state of affairs and wished to perform all work on time.
In addition, Mr. Bekmukhambetov briefed the Chairman of the CAC with the plans to expand the departure lounge for international flights and transit area of the passenger terminal, which JSC "Almaty international airport" performs on its own.
By optimizing the space of the first floor of the terminal, the transit area will be increased more than twice and will reach 850 sq. m. This will allow airlines to expand transit transportations. It is planned to install sleeping capsules (sleapbox) and shower cabins for transit passengers, whose connecting flights take big time.
Also by optimizing the check-in area of the international flights, the area of international departure lounge will increase by 650 m2, which will increase the number of seats to 100 seats, and the total number will reach 505 seats.
The CAC Chairman supported the initiatives of the management and wished that the carried-out modernization has allowed the airport to maintain its leading position in the region.
