Dear residents of Turksib district
I heartily congratulate you on the remarkable date – the 75th anniversary of the founding of the largest district in the Southern capital.
The history of our district is very rich, and it should be noted that the first industrial enterprises of the city were concentrated in this place. In hard wartimes the district did not stop the economic development. In those years the district had several plants transferred from the occupied territories. Many specialists, professionals, and workers eventually formed the technical potential of the district.
The district has the fast growing economy. All this is the result of hard constructive labor of many generations. Our district is proud of its countrymen, including veterans of the Great Patriotic War and Heroes of Socialist Labor, honored railway employees, pilots, builders, and workers.
Year by year the quality of life of people improves, there are new-built houses and community facilities, modernized infrastructure, developing education, public health service, culture, and sports in the district.
Today Turksib district is a dynamically developing area with modern industry, and is the main transport gateway of the city.
It is gratifying to note that the largest aviation hub of the country was founded in Turksib district far back in 1935. At present Almaty International Airport JSC has a leading position in the Central Asian region in technical equipment, range of services, as well as passenger and cargo traffic. Staff number of employees is 3,200 people the majority of whom lives in Turksib district. For the last 5 years the infrastructure of Almaty International Airport JSC has undergone a number of positive changes, and a wide range of issues has been resolved.
One of the main achievements of the enterprise in 2011 was stabilization of financial situation.
Also the airport was modernized. There are 2 runways at the airport; characteristics of both runways allow to accept all existing types of aircraft. The Runway 2, constructed in 2008, is the longest one in the Central Asia, and it has lighting equipment complying with ICAO Category III B, so Almaty airport became the all-weather airport.
In order to improve the quality of service for passengers and increase the traffic capacity, in December 2012 an additional Terminal 2 was put into operation by renovation and connection of the existing arrival lounge to the main terminal with a gallery.
To avoid the accumulation of cars at the exit from the airport during peak hours, the entrance group, consisting of 4 entrance points and 7 exit points, was reconstructed in June 2011. To expand the exit zone, Almaty International Airport bought the Flight café located in the vicinity of the barrier zone. At the same time, a free parking for 250 cars was constructed. Now the entrance to the airport and the first 15 minutes of being in the car park is free of charge. In addition, since November 2012 the city bus #79 can entry the terminal area. The route of the bus runs through the city, and the bus drives directly to the passenger terminal.
The multimodal cargo terminal is modernized and the specialized equipment is updated continuously. At present, the number of specialized equipment is over 400 units.
In the future, we will all have a lot of work to do. We need to focus our efforts on making our district more comfortable, so that we, our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will live, work, and be happy in this place.
I believe you will write new pages in the history of the native district.
I sincerely wish you health, welfare, and good luck in all your endeavors for the benefit of Turksib district!
